Mustafa Shakur 's Schedule is Full

Mustafa Shakur is a popular guy these days. Many of the top college recruiters are taking advantage of the April contact period to make their pitch to the Philly Player. TSW caught up with Mustafa Wednesday night to check on his progress.

We asked Shakur who had stopped by and visited. The list reads like a Who's Who list of College Coaches. "In the last two weeks, Jim Calhoun (UConn), Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Jay Wright (Villanova), and Herb Sendek (NC State) have all visited," Shakur said. "Virginia and Boston College coaches have also dropped in. Louisville and Arizona are scheduled to be here next week."

We asked him if any favorites had emerged after all the visits this month. "Not really" Mustafa said, "Each Coach has approached me in a similar way, yet each Coach has a special point they make."

The attention that the rangy point guard is garnering can create conflicts. "My schedule is busy. When I get out of school, I have a 1 hour train trip to get home and I play ball. Theres not a lot of time left, so sometimes the recruiting process can be a conflict."

Shakur's time table reflects his desire to remain wide open until mid-summer. "I hope to get the list down to 5 or 6 schools after the camps. Right now I'm concentrating on AAU ball (Hunter Park Warriors). We are scheduled to play in Virginia in a couple of weeks."

Mustafa has remained humble through the process, especially when it comes to talking about his game. He explains, "I have a hard time and I feel uncomfortable talking about my game. I concentrate on playing and really do not know how to describe myself." The Insiders has Shakur listed as the #1 Point Guard Prospect in the Class of 2003.

Mustafa also has a busy summer lined up as well. He plans on attending the ABCD Addidas camp, USA Camp as well as the NBA camp if no conflicts exist in scheduling.
