NC State has continued to keep a watchful eye on WR/CB Griff Yancey of Hermitage High School in Richmond, Va all year. The talented, 6-1, 180 pound senior put together a great senior season as he collected 30 receptions for 600 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was equally effective on special teams- scoring a touchdown on both a punt return and kickoff return. For his efforts, Yancey was named all-district as a wide receiver and kick returner and all-region as a wide receiver. The senior prospect recently made his second unofficial visit to State for the Maryland game and we caught up with him for the latest on his recruiting.
"That visit was really nice," said Yancey. "It was a little chilly but overall, it was a great experience. It was a great game. State was down early but they came back."
Yancey is being recruited by Wolfpack safety coach Manny Diaz and he's obviously made a great impression on the Virginia standout.
"Coach Diaz is a really cool coach," said Yancey. "I actually met him over the summer before my 11th grade year and he always speaks the truth and lets you know where you stand."
So far, Yancey has earned scholarships from Ohio and Richmond but left little doubt about the school he would love to play for.
"NC State is my top school most definitely," said Yancey. "I'd definitely jump at it if they offered."
For now, Yancey told us he has a top five of NC State, Virginia, Ohio, Richmond and Hampton.
He will be officially visiting Richmond this weekend and will be at Ohio University the first weekend of January. Yancey told Pack Pride that coach Diaz was scheduled to visit him this week and they would talk about the prospects of an official visit to NC State at that time. The Wolfpack is recruiting Yancey as an athlete.
