For a while it looked like NC State and Louisville were the schools to beat for one of New Jersey's top athletes.
In recent weeks, however, the Scarlet Knights have done a good job convincing wide receiver Jason Simmons that it would be nice to stay close to home.
"Rutgers has really made a push for me recently. They offered me and I'm seriously considering committing to them. If I had to commit today that's where I would go.
"My cousin Carl Howard plays there now, and it's an in-state program," said Simmons. "I think they're going in the right direction as a program."
That doesn't mean the Pack is out of the picture. Earlier reports that NC State had offered Simmons turned out to be false.
"Rutgers and Louisville are my only two offers. If NC State were to offer it would probably help them out a little bit. I'm taking an official visit to Rutgers on Jan. 20, and I might visit Louisville and NC State too."
At 6-6 and 200-pounds, the prospect from Matawan Regional High School in Aberdeen, NJ has the ability to stretch the field and elevate over smaller defenders.
"Anything could change at this point, especially if NC State or Louisville starts to recruit me a little bit harder. But right now it's looking like Rutgers is where I might end up."
