NC State may not ultimately land WR Johnny Patrick from Deland (Fla) High School but it won't be because they didn't put on a show for the three star wideout this weekend. The Pack hosted Patrick on his first official visit and every indication from the speedy wide receiver was it came off as a resounding success.
"That was a great trip," said Patrick. "They've got some great players there. Jimmie Sutton was my host and he was a great guy. Plus, I got to hang out with guys like Stephen Tulloch and Garland Heath and I just had a great time. They were telling me that if I didn't want to work hard then don't bother coming to NC State and I really liked that. I liked that they were straightforward.
"We went to the football banquet and that was awesome- just hearing the players talk and watching the highlights from the year. We got some great food and it was all just great. We toured the stadium, the locker room- everything was so nice"
After the visit, Patrick was able to get some one on one time with head coach Chuck Amato and Patrick admitted that the thought definitely crossed his mind to cast his lot with the Wolfpack.
"I went in to meet with coach Amato and he let me know how much he needed me and wanted me and we watched some of my film," said Patrick. "He asked me what I wanted to do and I told him I wanted to go ahead and take this next visit. He told me he thought that was a good idea.
"Me and Darrell Davis hit it off on the visit and we're going to Louisville next weekend. We almost committed together at State today (Sunday). But for right now, everything is even. I'm going to go to Louisville and see their coaches and players and everything and then I can make my decision on Monday after that visit."
