NC State apparently came close to landing another defensive back during this past weekend's official visits but in the end, safety Jevon Walker from South Dade High School in Miami, Fla decided to follow mom's advice and delay pulling the trigger on a commitment just yet.
At 6-0, 180 pounds, Walker put together a super senior season playing alongside fellow Pack recruit Darin Baldwin. On the year he collected better than 100 tackles and caught the eye of the Wolfpack coaches with his potential. State offered him an official visit and a scholarship and the senior defensive back talked with Pack Pride about his first trip to Raleigh.
"The trip went alright," said Walker. "I had a lot of fun at the banquet. That was real nice. Then seeing the stadium, the weight room, the training room- all of that was great.
"I wanted to commit, but I decided to wait like my mom had said. But you can say right now the place I'm going is NC State. I told the coaches there that that's where I want to play. I wouldn't say I'm officially committed yet but that's where I'm leaning. I'll probably decide in the next month."
Walker was hosted by current NC State CB Marcus Hudson and Walker said the two hit it off.
In addition to NC State, Walker is hearing from Eastern Michigan, Colorado State, Florida Atlantic, Florida International and South Florida.
The senior DB has been selected to play in the Florida North vs. South All-Star game as well as the Dade-Broward All-Star contest.
