Shelby (NC) Crest linebacker Brandon Spikes has been one of the top players for North Carolina at this week's Shrine Bowl practices.

"It's been great," Spikes said. "We've been adjusting to the two-a-day's. Everybody is a little sore, but we're going to be ready to go on Saturday.

Following this morning's workout the four-star linebacker discussed his recruitment with Pack Pride.

He has narrowed his list down to three programs, but mentions that he could take a trip to an in-state school this weekend.

"I think I might go up to NC State this weekend," Spikes said. "I'm not for sure right now, but I'm suppose to. Right now it's Virginia Tech, Florida, and Alabama.

"It just depends on if I want to take that ride after the game tomorrow."

Would NC State jump into contention should Spikes make his way to Raleigh?

"Oh yea, I just want to give one of the in-state schools a chance," he said. "You know, check it out and see how it is."

Current Wolfpack commitment Nathaniel Irving is performing well at linebacker for North Carolina's squad, and he has been recruiting Spikes for NC State.

"He's been talking to me," Spikes said. "He's trying to recruit me. He's telling me to come up there with him. I think he's a great player. I think he broke his thumb in practice but he's going to play."

Spikes is hoping to announce his decision at the US Army All-American Bowl.
