Will Brooks Return to the Pack?

Pack Pride has the latest on DE Raymond Brooks.

With the departures of DE's Manny Lawson and Renaldo Moses looming as well as the possibility of all-american Mario Williams opting for the NFL after this season, filling spots at the defensive end position for the 2006 season will be crucial for NC State. It would appear at least one spot has been filled.

Ray Brooks was a major contributor in just his first year of action for the Pack back in 2004. Seeing action in 10 games, he finished off the year as the team's fourth leading tackler among defensive linemen with 19 and also had three tackles for loss and one fumble recovery. Brooks was named defensive newcomer of the year for his efforts.

Brooks was ruled academically ineligible for the 2005 season and many have wondered about the talented DE's status for 2006.

Pack Pride caught up with Brooks' mother, Sherry, on Tuesday evening and she gave us the latest on her son's plans.

"Ray is back down in North Carolina now," she said. "He's trying to get himself settled again and he'll be ready to enroll in school in January."

Brooks will not be eligible to participate in the Wolfpack's upcoming bowl game.
