Pack Pride's N.C. Top-30 Prospects: #21-30

Pack Pride breaks down the top 30 prospects in NC. In our first installment, we take a look at #21-30.

After last spring and summer's combines, camps, , senior season, film evaluation and Shrine Bowl game, the staff at Pack Pride has put together our post season look at the top 30 prospects from the state of North Carolina. Today we break down numbers 30-21.

30. LB Matt Woodlief...5-11, 230 pounds, 4.7 in the 40...Bandys High School, Catawba, NC

Offers...UNC, Wake Forest...Schools...Committed to Wake Forest on July 19, 2005

Rankings Summary...Scout...30...SuperPrep...31...James...29...Steve...UR

Notes...Woodlief is a fireplug of a player. Size may have been an issue for some schools but he will likely play MLB for the Deacs. Not the fastest prospect around but has a nose for the ball and plays extremely tough.

NC State connection...The Pack was not heavily involved.

29. DL Gavin Smith ...6-4, 260 pounds, 4.9 seconds in the 40...Wakefield High School, Raleigh NC

Offers...NC State, Duke...Schools...Smith committed to NC State on July 19, 2004

Rankings Summary...Scout...28...SuperPrep...27...James...30...Steve...29

Notes...Smith is a big, wide body that plays with a nasty streak. Recruited as a defensive tackle and played both ways for a super Wakefield squad in 2005. Smith runs fairly well but reminds of Shane Lucas coming out of high school who ultimately made a transition to the offensive line.

NC State connection...Smith made an early commitment to NC State but has continued to entertain interest from other schools, primarily UNC and Duke.

28. TE Ryan Taylor...6-4, 207 pounds, 4.59 in the 40 (combine timed)...Mt Tabor High School, Winston-Salem, NC

Offers...UNC, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt...Schools...Committed to UNC on June 22

Rankings Summary...Scout...19...SuperPrep...28...James...28...Steve...28

Notes...Taylor performed well over the summer and has a good blend of size and speed. May ultimately end up at TE on the collegiate level but has good hands and the frame to play much larger.

NC State connection...NC State was not heavily involved

27. S Alex Frye...6-3, 185 pounds, 4.62 seconds in the 40...Jack Britt High School, Fayetteville, NC

Offers...Virginia, Wake Forest, East Carolina...Schools...Frye has visits planned to Virginia, East Carolina and Wake Forest

Rankings Summary...Scout...UR...SuperPrep...24...James...27...Steve...27

Notes...Frye has a solid combination of size and speed and has been a major player in Jack Britt's attack over the last two years. Has played wide receiver but will likely land as a safety on the next level.

NC State connection...The Pack was not heavily involved

26. LB Nate Irving...6-3, 215 pounds, 4.59 in the 40 (combine-timed)...Wallace-Rose Hill High School, Teachey, NC

Offers...NC State, East Carolina...Schools...Irving committed to NC State on Oct 31, 2005

Rankings Summary...Scout...26...SuperPrep...UR...James...26...Steve...26

Notes...Irving has the look of a division one linebacker today. He has a great frame and solid speed. Irving is a guy that seems to always be around the play and is quick to get to the ball-carrier. Seemed to struggle some with pass coverage at the Shrine Bowl and will need work on that aspect of his game but should become a contributor for the Pack after a couple of years in the program.

NC State connection...Irving did not hide his affection for the Pack and committed soon after receiving an offer from NC State

25. ATH Bruce Carter...6-3, 200 pounds, 4.5 in the 40...Havelock (NC) High School

Offers...UNC...Schools...Committed to UNC on May 18

Rankings Summary...Scout...20...SuperPrep...9...James...24...Steve...25

Notes..Carter has a great frame with good speed to boot. He was a super player for Havelock during his career but will likely end up at safety or linebacker one he gets to Chapel Hill.

NC State connection...NC State did not heavily pursue Carter.

24. CB Kendric Burney...5-9, 170 pounds, 4.57 in the 40 (combine timed) SW Onslow High School, Jacksonville, NC

Offers...UNC, East Carolina and Duke...Schools...Committed to UNC on May 10

Rankings Summary...Scout...22...SuperPrep...15...James...26...Steve...23

Notes...Burney is one of those players that makes it hard to predict what he'll ultimately succeed at in college. Many peg him for cornerback but he needs a lot of work to make it at that position. He seems most effective in the open field with the ball in his hands where he can use his quickness and speed to elude defenders- making slot receiver a distinct possibility.

NC State connection...The Pack recruited Burney but never offered.

23. ATH Tarvorris Jolly ...5-11, 182 pounds, 4.62 in the 40 (combine timed)...Shelby High School, Shelby, NC

Offers...UNC...Schools...Committed to UNC on April 3rd

Rankings Summary...Scout...UR...SuperPrep...16...James...23...Steve...22

Notes...Jolly was extremely impressive back in the summer when we watched him. He has good speed and athleticism that could turn him into a player that could be plugged into a variety of positions. May be one of the more under rated prospects on UNC's commitment list.

NC State connection....NC State did not heavily recruit Jolly.

22. ATH Shaun Draughn...6-0, 193 pounds, 4.52 in the 40 (combine timed)...Tarboro (NC) High School

Offers...UNC and East Carolina...Schools...Committed to UNC on June 16

Rankings Summary...Scout...9...SuperPrep...26...James...22...Steve...21

Notes...Draughn is a player that really impresses on film. He has good quickness and speed and showed the ability to lay the lumber while on defense. May not be the most instinctive but more than makes up for it with athletic ability. Needs to get bigger but could be a major defensive player for UNC down the road.

NC State connection...NC State was not heavily involved

21. WR Marshall Williams ...6-1, 165 pounds, 4.65 in the 40 (combine timed)...Riverside High School, Durham, NC

Offers...Duke, Wake Forest, Maryland...Schools...Committed to Wake Forest on June 27

Rankings Summary...Scout...25...SuperPrep...30...James...17...Steve...24

Notes....Tall, rangy wide receiver with good speed. Probably didn't have the senior season he expected but Williams possesses a ton of potential and seems to fit the mold of receiver for Wake Forest that kills teams once he gets a couple of years in college under his belt. Needs to add some bulk.

NC State connection...NC State was recruiting Williams but did not offer.
