NC State's coaches are still out on the recruiting trails searching for prospects that could help replenish the Pack's defensive line.
Chris Neild, a 6-3, 275-pound prospect from Stroudsburg High School in Pennsylvania has the athleticism and strength Coach Amato and staff are interested in.
"NC State is definitely in my top three, along with Georgia Tech and Syracuse," said Neild. "I've taken official visits to Tech and Syracuse, and I saw NC State last summer. I really liked all the coaches that I've met so far, and I'm sure I'll like what I experience at NC State when I take my official there too. It's going to be a tough decision."
Neild has official visits scheduled to West Virginia (January 14), NC State (January 21) and North Carolina (January 28).
"All of those schools are recruiting me to play defensive line except North Carolina. I think they want me as a short-yardage fullback. I would really prefer defense, but that won't be the determining factor in my decision."
While Neild has the size to play either end or tackle in college, he'll be learning a new position either way.
"I've spent the past three seasons playing linebacker for my high school team," he said. "So I'll have to make a good transition to defensive line. I don't think it will be too much of a problem. In fact, I think the things that made me a good linebacker will make me a better defensive lineman. To play linebacker you have to be intense, quick and totally aware all the time. That can only help me down the road."
Each of the five schools Neild is still considering have offered scholarships.
