NC State landed their 13th commitment of the season this past Thursday when S Jevon Walker from South Dade High School in Homestead, Fla.
At 6-0, 195 pounds and boasting 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash, Walker was part of a talented defensive backfield with teammate Darin Baldwin and finished off the year with close to 100 tackles. While he may not have been a huge name nationally, Walker was known as one of south Florida's top prospects and was invited to the Dade-Broward and North vs South all-star events.
Pack Pride caught up with Walker and got the lowdown on his commitment to NC State.
"Coach Stroud came by my school on Thursday and I told him I wanted to commit to NC State," said Walker. "He was real happy. What stood out was that, when he had come to my house before, he let me know that they wanted me because of who I was and not because of Darin and that meant a lot.
"Really, I just liked State. I loved the facilities there. State wants me as a safety but in high school I've played everything from safety to strong safety, defensive end, linebacker and a little corner back. I feel like I could play all over but where ever they need help, that's where I'll play."
Walker continues to receive interest from South Florida and plans to visit there on Jan 13th. He is qualified and plans to major in Criminology.
