No one was expecting versatile lineman Jason Kates to take an official visit to NC State – including Kates himself. But he was in Raleigh this weekend. How did his trip go?
Coach Amato had an in-home visit with Kates last week, and the 6-3, 320-pound offensive/defensive lineman liked what he heard. So at the last minute Kates decided to squeeze in a fifth official visit – this one to NC State.
"Jason has been sick since he got back from NC State," said Kates' mother. "He ate some lobster down there, and we think that's what it was. He's really not feeling well, and because he took that visit he hasn't made his decision yet."
Other than getting sick did Kates enjoy NC State?
"From everything I've heard it sounds like he had a good time," his mother said. "I think he likes NC State. It sounds like he really likes the coaches there. I'm not sure when he's going to make his decision, but I know they're (NC State) one of the schools he's really thinking about."
Other than NC State the senior from Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, PA is looking at Michigan, Syracuse and Minnesota. Kates showed interest in Maryland at one time, but it seems as though the Terps have dropped off the radar. Kates said last week, before the visit to NC State was even scheduled, that his co-leaders were Michigan and Syracuse.
