Baldwin Could Decide Soon

Homestead (FL) South Dade defensive back Darin Baldwin didn't sign his letter of intent on national signing day, instead choosing to wait and see how he fared on his latest SAT test.

Despite the delay, Baldwin has narrowed his list to NC State and Florida, and states both programs are willing to wait on him to decide.

"Everybody said they are still waiting," Darin Baldwin told Pack Pride. "When I go to school tomorrow, my couselor is going to pull my latest scores, and I'll find out what I have. We're just waiting on the scores. Everybody is still there, it's not like everybody ran away or anything like that.

"It's still NC State and Florida. It's not like I'm putting Florida before NC State or anything like that, I just don't know for sure which one I want to go to yet."

Baldwin committed to NC State in late January, and after not inking with the Wolfpack, he still remains in contact with assistant coach Todd Stroud.

"They have just been saying no matter what they are going to wait on me," he said. "I'm still talking to coach Stroud. He said if I didn't make it they would send me to a prep school, and that's fine too. I just want to see the field."

Florida appears to have a different plan for Baldwin. The Gators have yet to fax him a letter of intent, although assistant Doc Holliday has stated Baldwin will receive one should he qualify on his most recent SAT test.

"If I make it, coach Holliday said to just call him, and they will send the paperwork down," said Baldwin. "He didn't want to send it early because after 14 days it expires.

"He said if I don't get it I can keep taking the test, and if I pass I can come in January."

Baldwin, who obviously hopes to receive a qualifying score, believes that he will make it. However, if he doesn't, the three-star prospect appears to be leaning towards signing with NC State.

"To tell you the truth, I want to be on the field as quick as possible, so if I didn't pass I'd probably sign with NC State," said Baldwin. "There would be no point in me waiting around."

Because he believes the latest scores should be reported tomorrow, Baldwin hopes to sign with the Gators or Wolfpack very soon.

"I'm going to try and get this done this week. As soon as I get those scores, I'm going to talk with my defensive backs coach and my family and go ahead and sign."
