Pack Offers Anson Duo

NC State has already offered two of the top prospects in North Carolina's '07 football class, as Wadesboro (NC) Anson County products Trinton Sturdivant and Barquell Rivers have been offered scholarships by the Wolfpack.

As is expected with his early four-star designation by Scout.com, Trinton Sturdivant boasts one of the longer scholarship offer lists among North Carolina recruits.

"Trinton has [offers from] Georgia, Florida, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Wake Forest," said Wadesboro (N.C.) Anson County head football coach Jody Grooms.

According to Grooms, Sturdivant, a 6-foot-6 290-pounder, is a dominating offensive tackle, who "can move [well], plays low, gets off the ball well, and is an outstanding student."

Sturdivant is completely wide open, but will be making plenty of unofficial visits this off-season with teammates and fellow division I-A recruits Michael Bowman and Barquell Rivers. North Carolina Virginia, South Carolina, Wake Forest, N.C. State, and Georgia look to be among the destinations.

Over the last few years Barquell Rivers (pictured) has been one of the most feared linebackers in the South Piedmont Conference.

That reputation – and the accomplishments that created that reputation – has resulted in a handful of scholarship offers.

"Barquell has [offers from] Virginia, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Penn State, Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech," said Wadesboro (N.C.) Anson County head football coach Jody Grooms.

Rivers, a 6-foot 220-pound linebacker, is virtually open, according to Grooms. However, unofficial trips this off-season – including North Carolina Virginia, South Carolina, Wake Forest, N.C. State, and Georgia – should help change that.

During his junior season, Rivers collected over 130 tackles earning him the Conference's Defensive Player-of-the-Year award.
