Web Run: Evtimov's injury is latest hurdle

It's become so disturbingly common that's it's almost a way to mark the time. If the end of the college basketball season is near, then someone important on the N.C. State roster must be hurt.

Bennerman made sure the Wolfpack always led by at least four when Virginia Tech got the ball. After two Bennerman free throws with 17.6 seconds remaining, coach Herb Sendek called timeout to switch to a 1-3-1 matchup zone. The Hokies seemed surprised. N.C. State stopped dribble penetration, and Engin Atsur tied up Wynton Witherspoon for a game-clinching held ball, giving the Wolfpack possession. "We just figured, what else could they do? Score?" Sendek said of the defensive change. "They were scoring every time down the court." - Charlotte Observer's Keb Tysiac and NC State's Herb Sendek

"For most of these Olympics, the Americans have not only underachieved, but revealed themselves as a bunch of candy-pants, New Age, everybody-is-a-winner softies who are just happy to participate." - IndyStar.com's Bob Kravitz

It's become so disturbingly common that's it's almost a way to mark the time. If the end of the college basketball season is near, then someone important on the N.C. State roster must be hurt. In 2004, it was Scooter Sherrill. Last year it was Jordan Collins and Tony Bethel. This time it's Ilian Evtimov, who sprained the Lisfranc ligament in his left foot during the Wolfpack's win over Florida State on Wednesday. Read More

Amato sees sports, business parallels

On the surface, Chuck Amato seems a bit of an odd bird in a room full of pork producers. The fast-talking Italian with the raspy voice, hulking chest, cocky (admittedly) demeanor and flashy wardrobe – even in his most conservative suit – fits like a saddle on a sow. But underneath all that, he's really one of them. "My grandparents on my mother's side owned a farm, and I grew up on the farm," Amato said Thursday during his keynote speech at the annual North Carolina Pork Council conference, held for the first time at the Greenville Convention Center. "If it wasn't for an opportunity to get an athletic scholarship ... to pay for my education, to this very day, I would be a farmer up in Pennsylvania with my cousins." Read More
