"There's good reason to believe that N.C. State coach Herb Sendek may lead the most tortured existence of any coach in ACC history. Every time it appears his Wolfpack is on the verge of doing something terrific, they take one step back." - Daily Progress sports editor Jerry Ratcliffe

Welcome to March, when so many basketball fans gladly empty wallets for ACC Tournament tickets and there's much more talk around the office about the Ratings Percentage Index than, say, the Standard & Poor's 500. With the ACC in its final week of the regular season, let the postseason guesses begin. Read up. Scour the Internet. Check out "Bracketology." ACC Tiebreaker procedure
News & Observer
* 1. When two teams are tied, regular-season, head-to-head results are used to determine seeding.

* 2. If two teams played twice and split the games, each team's record vs. the highest team in the conference standings (Duke) is used, continuing through the standings until one team has an advantage.

* 3. If three or more teams are tied, the team with the best collective winning percentage against the others is used. If that doesn't break the tie, then each team's record against the highest team in the standings (Duke) will be used, continuing through the standings. If two teams remain tied, No. 1 and No. 2 will be used to break the tie.

Example: It's possible Boston College, North Carolina and N.C. State could tie for second place at 11-5. Should that occur (with UNC losing the last game to Duke), BC and Carolina would have collective 2-1 records among the three teams while State would be 1-2. BC and Carolina both would be winless against Duke. BC defeated Carolina in the only head-to-head meeting so the Eagles would claim the No. 2 seed, with UNC No. 3 and State No. 4. Read More
