Name: Rodney Cox
Hometown: Angier, North Carolina
High School: Harnett Central High School
Notes: For Harnett Central, Cox starred at quarterback where he ran a spread-option style offense similar to the offense employed by Urban Meyer at Florida. As a junior, Cox completed 70-of-132 passes (53%) for 1,471 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed for 2,370 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Most project him to play wide receiver, tight end, or even defensive end on the next level, as Cox is an outstanding athlete. He already has scholarship offers from NC State and Clemson, and Florida, Notre Dame, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech are expressing heavy interest.
Cox Quote: "My ability to pass the ball and run are my strengths. I think that helps me when I play. People say I play like Vince Young, the Texas quarterback."
Scouting Report: "First and foremost, Cox is a tremendous athlete and the type of player you just want to put the ball in his hands. Should he stick to quarterback, he has some work to do on his footwork and mechanics but he certainly has the arm to play and hit the deep cuts. He has quick feet, makes good reads in finding a hole while following blockers, and coudl easily make the transition to wide receiver where he showed good hands in San Antonio for the combine." -- Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Miller Safrit
