    Scouting Report - June 16, 2002: (Spencer Cagle * VTInsider.com )
Virginia Beach, Virginia native Shannon Lane is one of the men at the top of the wide receiver wish list for Coach Beamer in 2002. At 6-0 and 190 pounds with lightening speed, Lane has become one of the most highly recruited wide receivers in the nation.

"Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina State, North Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Michigan, Michigan State, Syracuse, West Virginia, Kansas State, and Tennessee" are the schools recruiting the Virginia Beach prospect. "All have offered and most of [the offers] are written," he noted.

"I don't have a favorite," he continued. "At this time, I'm open." Lane told VT Insider that he does not have a top five or any group of schools that stand out above the others either at this point.

Lane also told VTI that he had visited Tech for camps in the past, but had also taken another visit to the Blacksburg campus. "I went there during one of the spring practices with Isaiah Gardner," he added. As of now, Lane has no more visits planned but his Salem High School team will camp at ECU this summer.

As for his view of his game, Lane says that he is good, but has some work to do. "I'm a solid receiver, but [I] need to work more on my routes," he said. He also has his goals set high for the next season. "Right now, we're hoping to win the state of course, and individually I want to break the state record for receiving yards and catches."

Last season, Lane had 14 catches for 400 yards and seven touchdowns and also played cornerback and returned kicks for Salem. He also noted that his current 40 time is 4.4 seconds, bench press is 250, and squat is 315.
