To say defensive tackle Tydreke Powell's stock has soared during the month of March would be a huge understatement to say the least. The 6-3, 295 pound junior is coming off a stellar season where he tallied 11 sacks on the year. His combination of size, toughness and quickness has led to a bevy of offers from an impressive assortment of schools
"Right now I've got offers from Miami, Kentucky, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, UNC, NC State and East Carolina," he said.
"I got Miami and that was real big. I got that last Thursday. My mother doesn't want me to go too far but I told her where ever I go, I'm going to work hard to make it to the next level. But she doesn't want me to go far but I told her I got to do what I got to do."
UNC has long been the leader for Powell's commitment and up to this point, nothing has changed but a couple of out of state programs have made a serious push for his services.
"UNC, Florida State and Miami are my top three right now," said Powell. "UNC is still out front and they've been there with me since I was in ninth grade. I've been visiting them and this year is really the first year I've been visiting other schools. Coach Bunting and coach Browning are like fathers to me."
NC State clearly has some ground to make up on Powell's top three but the Pack is still very much in the hunt.
"I'm looking at State too," he said. "I went there last week and they're some pretty good guys up there as far as the players and I also like them because me and LaMarcus Bond are best friends. He talks to me about coming to NC State everyday."
Powell plans to attend camps over the summer at Miami, UNC, Florida and Florida State. He said he would like to announce his collegiate choice at the US Army All-American Bowl if he is selected to the game.
