Pack Takes the Lead for SC Athlete

Athlete Cameron Ford recently made an unofficial visit to NC State and it was enough to propel the Wolfpack to the top of his leaderboard. We've got the latest on his recruitment.

South Carolina is home to a good amount of talent in the Class of 2007 and one of the most versatile prospects in the Palmetto State is favoring NC State.

Cameron Ford, a 6-4, 212-pound prospect from T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson, SC is a teammate of highly-recruited running back Brian Maddox. Like Maddox, NC State and South Carolina appear to be the teams to beat.

"I really liked NC State while I was up there," said Ford, who visited NC State two weekends ago. "I got to see a practice in the morning and then we had a tour of the campus. I loved the facilities, the offices and everything else. It seems like a great school. I'd say they're my favorite now. South Carolina is up there too though."

Ford runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds and has the ability to play tight end, wide receiver, safety or even linebacker at the next level.

"Most schools are recruiting me as a receiver or tight end, but I think NC State likes me as either a free safety or linebacker. It doesn't matter one way or the other to me. I'll do whatever I can to help the team win."

Ford has good hands and showed that during a junior season in which he caught 31 passes for 820 yards.

"I don't want people to get the idea that I just like to run routes and catch passes," said Ford. "I love to hit out there. When I'm out there on the field I don't shy away from contact at all. I fly around out there and get myself in a position to make plays."

Ford has verbal offers from NC State, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Vanderbilt. Recently Tennessee and Georgia have started recruiting him.
