Pack Pride will take a weekly look at how NC State may recruit the various positions for the class of 2007 and the prospects that are currently mentioning the Pack as one of their top schools. The following should be considered a rough guide only as many factors will affect the actual numbers at each position between now and signing day next year. Based on numbers available currently, the Pack will likely sign between 22-25 players in next year's class. All information contained in this article is the opinion of the staff at Pack Pride and should not be confused as being information from the coaching staff at NC State. It is also based on information known at the current time. Several aspects of this listing will certainly change as the recruiting season progresses.
Key losses...Leroy Harris, Merci Falaise, Jonathan Holt, James Newby
Pack is likely to sign...5-7
Number signed at this position over the last two years...6
How important is this spot in relationship to other positions...Crucial
How does the Pack's early recruiting pool look: Grade A
The past two years have proven to be feast or famine for NC State at this position. The Pack landed six lineman in the class of 2005 but followed that up with just one in the class of 2006. Suffice it to say that the Pack will make the position a major priority in the class of 2007 and that has already been reflected in the number of players boasting early offers from NC State. Look for the Pack to take roughly a half dozen at this spot if everything comes together. Based on early feedback, that looks very attainable.
Pack Pride's Dream Recruiting Class at OL....Landon Walker, Kyle Nunn, Desmond Roberts, Kyle Fischer, Donny Barclay and Doug Weaver
On the board and listing the Pack:
Doug Weaver ....Former Duke commit...we feel very good about State's chances. Those chances may be even better with Pat Meyer as the new offensive line coach.
Donny Barclay ...Pack was first to offer and had successful unofficial visit with Barclay a couple of weeks ago. Look out for WVU or Pittsburgh if they offer. No faves currently.
Kyle Fischer ...Sleeper OL with offers from NC State, Vandy and ECU. Has unofficially visited but shying away from naming favorites. Pack has been in his top two in the past.
Landon Walker ...State has been a tentative leader but they'll have to fight tooth and nail with teams like Clemson and UNC offering. Could be a summer commit.
Kyle Nunn ...Pack was first to offer and based on that, may hold slight, early lead. Will get interesting when other offers begin to come in.
Desmond Roberts ...Pack leads for Roberts and has been solidly in his top tier of schools for weeks.
Micah Grimes ...State looked good early but may have fell off some recently. If the Pack picks it up, there's a good chance they could get in his top five. If Florida offers, he's a Gator.
Mason Cloy ...Has about a half dozen offers including one from NC State but it may be a big chore to get him out of state with teammate Quintin Richardson already committed to USC.
Sergio Glenn ...NC State leads early but will have to wait and see exactly what the Pack's interest level is.
Josh Stanley ...The Pack has had success at Ely High School before (James Martin, Sterling Hicks) but height could be a concern with Stanley so we'll have to wait and see what the Pack's interest level is. State is in his top five.
Andrew Nuss ...The Pack recently cracked Nuss' top four but it could take a heavy dose of Pat Meyer to snatch him away from Virginia Tech.
