Davis: 'I Know He's Won Some Championships'

Queens (NY) Christ The King guard Larry Davis first read about it on the Internet.

An NC State signee, Davis saw that the Wolfpack is set to hire Sidney Lowe as the next head coach, and he seemed excited about it.

"NC State is a big-time program, and they go for the best. That's what they did in hiring coach Lowe."

"I did hear about coach Lowe getting the job, but I haven't talked to anyone for sure about it yet," Larry Davis told Pack Pride. "I know he's won some championships, and he won one at NC State. He has a lot of experience coaching the pro players, and he's with the Detroit Pistons now.

"NC State is a big-time program, and they go for the best. That's what they did in hiring coach Lowe."

Davis is ready to meet the Wolfpack's new coach. He's heard a lot about him, as his dad informed him of Lowe's playing days at NC State and in the pros, but he still wants to sit down and talk with the ex-Wolfpack point guard.

"I just want to meet him, sit down and talk with him, and see how he runs his team," Davis said. "I just want to get to know him."

As with fellow signee Dennis Horner, Davis sounded excited about the rumors that Larry Harris could be returning to Raleigh as an assistant under Lowe. The difference is Davis was recruited to NC State by Harris, while Horner's lead recruiter was ex-assistant Mark Phelps. This could play a major role in NC State keeping Davis in the fold.

"Coach Harris is the one that recruited me," Davis said. "I'd be happy if that happens because he recruited me to NC State. When I was playing he followed me on the circuit, and he likes me and my game. Because of that, maybe coach Lowe will like me too."

When Davis speaks with Lowe he will have a better understanding of what he is looking to do with his program at NC State. At that point, he will be able to make a firm decision regarding his future.

"I've been waiting for a coach to be picked and this whole time I've been taking my time," Davis said. "I'm going to just take my time, get to know him, and make my decision from there."
