Pack Pride will take a weekly look at how NC State may recruit the various positions for the class of 2007 and the prospects that are currently mentioning the Pack as one of their top schools. The following should be considered a rough guide only as many factors will affect the actual numbers at each position between now and signing day next year. Based on numbers available currently, the Pack will likely sign between 22-25 players in next year's class. All information contained in this article is the opinion of the staff at Pack Pride and should not be confused as being information from the coaching staff at NC State. It is also based on information known at the current time. Several aspects of this listing will certainly change as the recruiting season progresses.
Wide Receiver/Tight End
Key losses...Lamart Barrett

How important is this spot in relationship to other positions...Moderate
How does the Pack's early recruiting pool look: Grade A-
While the numbers look solid in regards to wide receiver and tight ends signed over the last two years, they may also be somewhat deceiving. NC State signed six players in 2006 that could play WR but it's no secret that as many as four of those players could end up somewhere other than wideout. The Wolfpack has not signed a national-caliber wide receiver since landing Tramain Hall and Richard Washington back in the class of 2002. The Pack would love to come up big at this position in 2007. With Steve Howard, Jonathan Hannah, and George Bryan already in the fold, State will look to build on that over the coming months.
Pack Pride's Dream Recruiting Class at WR/TE....TE Jonathan Hannah, WR Steve Howard, TE George Bryan, WR Jay Smith, TE Lars Anderson
On the board and listing the Wolfpack:
WR Steve Howard...Committed to NC State last April over offers from Wake Forest and Vandy. Rated as a three-star prospect
WR Jay Smith...Smith is one of the top priorities for NC State at wide receiver. He has received offers from around the nation and is one of the most highly rated prospects on the Wolfpack's board. The Pack appears to be in great position to land Smith and he will reportedly be in town for the Florida State game. He very well may be closing in on making a decision in the very near future. Smith is rated a 4-star prospect.
WR Leonard Hankerson...Hankerson is another big-timer on the Wolfpack recruiting board. However, the odds for State are probably slim with this national-caliber recruit. He currently lists a top five of Miami, Ohio State, Florida, Michigan and NC State. The Pack's best chance will be to secure an official visit and then, hope for the best. Hankerson is rated a four-star prospect.
WR Darian Williams...Williams is part of a trio of Northeast High School players that State has offered. That list also includes LB Josh Hartigan and RB Bo Williams. Williams has already made an official visit to NC State and is also considering Pittsburgh, Arizona State, Central Florida and Auburn. We think it is likely that State may be done with wide receiver recruiting by the time Williams makes a decision so the odds of him landing at State are probably slim unless he were to pull a surprise and commit in the very near future. Williams is rated a three-star prospect.
WR/ATH Bert Reed...In our opinion, Reed is a kid you try to take no matter what. His blazing speed and athleticism make him a serious deep threat and a player that you love to get the ball to out in space. There's little doubt that Florida is the odds-on favorite here and the Gators, under Urban Meyer have proven tough to beat in their own backyard. However, State appears to be in decent shape to get an official at which time, anything can happen. West Virginia, Alabama and Florida State are under consideration as well. Reed is currently unrated by Scout.com.
WR/TE Cameron Ford...Ford claims offers from Kentucky and NC State but in all honesty, it's been tough for us to discern if Ford has a committable offer from the Pack. There's no question that State is watching him closely, however and State leads big for him currently. Ford is somewhat similar to George Bryan although a bit smaller. He would likely grow into a tight end down the road, however. Ford is rated a two-star prospect.
TE Lars Anderson...Early on, it appeared Anderson was biding his time, looking for more scholarship offers. Although that may partly still be the case, it appears the Wolfpack's hard work has paid off as Anderson recently named the Pack as his top school. He has also earned offers from Marshall, Akron, Florida International and Central Florida. Georgia, Miami and Nebraska are also in the mix and any of those three could pose a serious threat should they decide to offer. Anderson is currently unrated by Scout.com.
TE Jonathan Hannah...committed to NC State after deciding to transfer from South Carolina. He is spending this season at Louisburg Junior College and will have three years to play three seasons starting in 2007.
TE George Bryan...committed to NC State last April over offers from Clemson, UNC, East Carolina and South Carolina. Rated a three-star prospect
