ACC men's basketball coaches, confused by an unusually low number of NCAA tournament invitations in 2006 and curious about the future, peppered an NCAA administrator with questions during conference business meetings Tuesday. Greg Shaheen, the tournament's director, addressed the coaches at the ACC's annual spring business meetings, and "spirited discussions" resulted, one observer said. They didn't include yelling, but they did involve pointed questions about why only four of the conference's 12 members -- 33 percent -- were invited to the 2006 tournament. Only once before in the 64- and 65-team era had the ACC been so minimally represented on a percentage basis. That was in 1999, when three of nine schools made the field. Read More
