Junior Video: Chris Culliver

Defensive back Chris Culliver was the second player to commit to NC State, and he is arguably North Carolina's most athletic football prospect. Here's your chance to catch the Garner (NC) star in action!

Name: Chris Culliver
Hometown: Garner, North Carolina
High School: Garner High School
Position: Defensive Back
Vitals: 6'1/190/4.35

Notes: Culliver played strong safety as a junior for Garner, as he tallied 127 tackles, seven sacks, and two interceptions. NC State was the first school to offer, and he was receiving major attention from East Carolina, Duke, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Notre Dame and Florida prior to his commitment.

Culliver burst on the scene at the Scout.com Combine held in Durham where the 6-foot-1, 190-pound defensive back put on a show.

"Heading into the afternoon, the name 'Chris Culliver' wasn't found on any recruiting list," Scout.com's Don Callahan said. "However, Culliver followed up his 4.38-second 40-yard dash time (a combine best), with one of the better defensive back performances.

"He was rarely beat on deeper routes and showed his competitive nature by singling out Mark Barnes – one of the better wide outs – and facing him most of the day."

Culliver has continue to standout at various camps, ripping off a 4.28 40-yard dash at the Methodist Shrine Bowl combine and a 4.37 at the NIKE Camp held at Clemson, S.C. More offers are sure to follow as several college programs will track his progress throughout his senior season.

Culliver Quote: "I really like their program. When I told coach Amato today he was very happy. He was pleased with it. He said they really liked my tape."

Scouting Report: An incredible athlete, Chris Culliver attracted attention this spring based on his athletic exploits. At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Culliver has ripped off sub 4.4 40-yard dashes at three different combines, showcasing the blazing speed that he possesses.

On film, he is explosive and loves contact. He was used primarily as a blitzing outside linebacker as a junior, but Culliver showcased very good football instincts and the ability to play in space when asked to do so. He is still raw as a football player, but with his athleticism he can project at a number of positions.

Culliver could play cornerback, safety or even grow into an outside linebacker on the next level. He is clearly one of the state's fastest-rising prospects as he has a lot of the physical attributes that college programs covet.
