Pack Pride Recruiting Board: DE

Pack Pride will take a weekly look at how NC State may recruit the various positions for the Class of 2007 and the prospects that are currently mentioning the Wolfpack as one of their top schools.

The following should be considered a rough guide only as many factors will affect the actual numbers at each position between now and signing day next year. Based on numbers available currently, the Pack will likely sign between 22-25 players in next year's class. All information contained in this article is the opinion of the staff at Pack Pride and should not be confused as being information from the coaching staff at NC State. It is also based on information known at the current time. Several aspects of this listing will certainly change as the recruiting season progresses.

How does the Pack's early recruiting pool look: Grade A

NC State has had tremendous success landing and developing defensive ends since the arrival of Chuck Amato. However, the losses of Manny Lawson, Mario Williams and Renaldo Moses, combined with the fact that signees Chad Green and Greg Peterson never enrolled at State has left the Pack in dire need of defensive ends. The Wolfpack is extremely young and thin at the position and needs talent that can come in and help immediately. Landing DE Linwan Euwell this past week was certainly a step in the right direction but the State coaches will be hoping to snag a couple of other big fish before all is said and done.

Pack Pride's Dream Recruiting Class at DE....Linwan Euwell, Solomon Thomas, Travian Robertson

On the board and listing the Pack:

Linwan Euwell ....Euwell recently committed to NC State over an offer from East Carolina and interest from UNC and USC. Undersized now but has the frame to play bigger down the road.

Solomon Thomas ....Thomas is similar to Willie Young in size and style at this point in his career. Thomas has been high on State for weeks and is scheduled to make an unofficial visit over the summer. The Pack is very near the top of his wish list.

Travian Robertson ....Robertson is one of the top ten prospects in North Carolina and a major Wolfpack priority. NC State has done a very solid job recruiting him but most insiders have considered him a UNC lean. Another team to keep an eye on is South Carolina with former Heel coach Brad Lawing heading up his recruiting for the Gamecocks.

Ben Martin ...Martin is a five-star type talent out of Ohio that State has visited and offered. However, Martin is a national caliber recruit and the Pack is a huge longshot.

Myles Caragein ....Caragein is a versatile prospect that could play DE, TE or even DT. State, along with about a dozen other schools have offered. We consider the Pack to be a longshot currently with Pittsburgh likely being the team to beat.

Jacoby Monroe ....Monroe may be the best defensive end in Florida and that's saying a lot considering he didn't even play last year. Although State has offered and is in his top five, it is unlikely he goes anywhere other than Florida State.

Antwan Jones ....Jones is a sleeper prospect out of North Carolina that we really like and will be one to keep in mind over the coming months. Has an offer from Wake Forest but the Pack coaches are very interested. Once his grade situation clears up he could pull in several more offers.

Jameil Farrington ....NC State has been very active at Homestead High School in Florida and have landed on Farrington's top five list. The Pack has yet to offer but seemed to have landed a solid foundation over the spring with this talented DE.

Patrick Grant ....Another talented DE from the Sunshine State listing NC State in his top five. Grant has secured offers from Alabama and Akron. The Pack has yet to offer but could become a major player if they decide to.

Jabari Williams ...Williams is a sleeper prospect out of Florida but one that State is keeping a close eye on. The Pack has not offered as of yet but we think Williams is a kid that has a tremendous amount of interest in State so he could definitely be one to watch should the Wolfpack up their interest level.
