Quarterback Chris Smith now holds five offers and is receiving a lot of attention from the NC State coaching staff.
The 6-3, 215-pound passer from South Point, OH hasn't received a scholarship from the Pack yet, but that might not be far off.
"I've heard a lot from NC State," said Smith. "They're right up there on my list. I don't want to name any favorites or anything, but I'm definitely interested in State. I think Coach Trestman is great at what he does. From everything I know he does a good job of grooming quarterbacks."
Smith has offers from West Virginia, Marshall, Ohio, Cincinnati and Bowling Green. While he has a good arm, he also has the ability to beat defenses with his legs. He might be visiting Raleigh before too long.
"The NC State coaching staff has been real interested in me for a while, and they've told me for a while that they want me to get down there for a visit. I think I'm going to camp there sometime in June.
"I might do a one-day camp at Ohio State also, and I think my team is going to do some 7-on-7 camps at a few places. Other than that I'm not sure what my schedule looks like this summer."
Smith is rated a four-star prospect by Scout.com and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.7-seconds. As a junior he totaled more than 2,200 yards of offense, passing for 15 touchdowns and rushing for six more.
"I don't really have a timetable for making a decision," he said. "I'm going to wait and while and see who offers me before I narrow things down. In the end I'll choose the school that I feel most comfortable with."
Smith: "I really do not consider myself to be stronger in any particular aspect of the game. I just try to go out there and play. I have a strong arm, but people say that I am elusive as well. I move around well in the pocket."
