Safety Jevon Walker joined the ranks of dozens of prospects from the Sunshine State to commit to the Pack under Chuck Amato. He might not be at school yet, but he is already predicting big things for the Pack next year.
"We're going to have a great season this year," said Walker. "I've looked over the schedule, and I think we're in a position to win a lot of games. We'll have some tough competition, but we've got as much talent as anyone we're going to play. I think we're going to surprise a lot of people and take a step up."
The 6-1, 195-pound safety is more modest when it comes to making predictions for himself.
"I'm confident in my abilities but I'm just going to come in and try to help out however I can. I'll try to get some playing time. I would definitely like to get on the field, but that's up to me. I have to prove I deserve it.
"I'm coming in to compete. I'm not coming in to sit around and just watch. If I'm not on the field my first year that's okay, but I expect to be playing out there somewhere."
As a senior at South Dade High School in Homestead, FL, Walker recorded more than 100 tackles and eight sacks, displaying toughness and a lot of physical play.
"I think of myself as an all-around player," he said. "I can help a team out a lot of ways. The coaches want me to come in at safety, so that's where I'll start out. I can cover and I can tackle. I'll just try to bring some hard hitting and speed to the secondary."
While the academic status of many prospects around the nation still remains uncertain, Walker recently received some good news.
"The coaches at State told me that I was good to go and that I had been accepted. I think they told me they wanted me on campus by July 2, but I was thinking about getting there even earlier. I'm not sure what I'll be doing, but I want to get there as early as I can to get used to college before the season starts."
