More Offers for Culliver

Garner (N.C.) defensive back Chris Culliver has finally succumbed to the pressures from other schools and softened his verbal commitment to NC State. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect has picked up three more scholarship offers, but remains a soft commitment to NC State.

Garner (N.C.) defensive back Chris Culliver has finally succumbed to the pressures from other schools and softened his verbal commitment to NC State.

"It's always hard when a new school offers because you start looking into the school," said Culliver. "I'd probably call the [NC] State commitment, I'd probably call it premature or a soft commit."

Originally, Culliver pledged to the Wolfpack in early April shortly after receiving a NCSU scholarship offer, his first.

Since that point and up until this past weekend, Culliver has added tenders from Clemson, Florida, and North Carolina. Over the course of the last week, Culliver nearly doubled his offers count with new tenders from Wake Forest Monday, Alabama Tuesday (verbal), and East Carolina Thursday.

"I talked to the East Carolina coach, I just got the [offer] letter in the mail," said Culliver. "He was just talking about how they sent the letter and I have a full ride to their school.

"With Wake Forest, they offered Monday. They were talking about me playing as true freshmen.

"Alabama, I talked to Coach [David] Turner. He said he's been playing phone tag with Coach [Nelson] Smith and he finally got my number. He also said I would see time as a freshman. He said ‘I'll tell you right now you have an offer.' He said they just want to see tape on me first before they send out the offer."

The Wolfpack coaching staff has been sympathetic of Culliver's situation.

"They said they understand and that I just got to keep in mind that they were the first to offer me," said Culliver. "I talked to Coach Strong and Coach Cignetti. They said before that schools were going to offer me."

On Tuesday, Culliver will unofficially visit Clemson. He also hopes to take a trip down to Florida in the next few weeks. He has yet to set any camping destinations, but is considering camping at N.C. State, and North Carolina.

As a junior, Culliver played strong safety where he totaled 127 tackles, seven sacks, and two interceptions.
