Pack Pride will take a weekly look at how NC State may recruit the various positions for the class of 2007 and the prospects that are currently mentioning the Pack as one of their top schools. The following should be considered a rough guide only as many factors will affect the actual numbers at each position between now and signing day next year. Based on numbers available currently, the Pack will likely sign between 22-25 players in next year's class. All information contained in this article is the opinion of the staff at Pack Pride and should not be confused as being information from the coaching staff at NC State. It is also based on information known at the current time. Several aspects of this listing will certainly change as the recruiting season progresses.

    Cornerback

    Key losses...AJ Davis

    Pack is likely to sign...2-3

Number signed at this position over the last two years...3

How important is this spot in relationship to other positions...Moderate

How does the Pack's early recruiting pool look: Grade B

NC State will lose AJ Davis after the 2006 season but will look to add at least a couple of corner backs in the class of 2007. The talent pool mentioning NC State currently isn't particularly deep but there are several very talented prospects in the group. If the Pack can pull two out of the bunch, it would be a solid year recruiting at this position.

Pack Pride's Dream Recruiting Class at CB....Marcus Gilchrist, Justin Byers, C.J. Fleming

On the board and listing the Wolfpack:

C.J. Fleming ...NC State was one of the first schools to offer this talented cornerback from Virginia. He now boasts nine total offers. Fleming has not narrowed his choices at all and is completely open but a summer time visit to NC State is crucial for the Pack's chances as he will decide before his senior season.

Cris Hill ...Hill is a teammate of Fleming and actually has a couple of more offers than his defensive partner. Like Fleming, he plans to announce his decision prior to the start of the 2006 season. It appears a trip to Raleigh will happen some time over the summer.

Marcus Gilchrist ...North Carolina's top cornerback prospect with offers from around the nation. Unfortunately NC State is not on his current top five list. However, given that State offers Gilchrist's intended major, closeness to home and Curt Cignetti as his primary recruiter, we can't completely count State out just yet. Perhaps more so than some other prospects, Gilchrist's coach is playing a huge role in his recruitment.

Justin Byers ...NC State was the first to offer and lead currently based on that offer. The Pack will look to build on that lead over the summer as Byer is likely to pick up some additional offers along the way.

Derek Blacknall ...We don't have a handle on Blacknall's top schools yet but we think he's a player that could surface on the NC State radar. Reportedly has an offer from ECU.

Dominique Ellis ...Ellis has looked solid this spring and reportedly earned an offer following the Wolfpack's camp. South Carolina has also offered. Ellis plays at East Wake but transferred in so not the usual connections with that program. He has the Wolfpack in his top five.

Doug Wiggins ...Wiggins is a national-caliber recruit that was mentioning State in the early going but, realistically, this will be a tough one to snag.

Junior Petit-Jean ....Solid cornerback from Naples, Florida that State has offered. Petit-Jean has not narrowed his choices yet and is still in the process of seeing which schools will ultimately offer. It may be a while before we know where he's leaning.
