NC State Adds Another In-State Product

Charlotte (NC) Catholic star Henry Lawson has reached a decision. The 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive lineman orally committed to NC State assistant coach Dick Portee this evening, just days after receiving an offer from the Wolfpack.

"I just committed to NC State a few minutes ago," Henry Lawson told Pack Pride. "I wanted to get the pressure off and get ready for the season. It's the place I want to be. There's no other place I want to be, so why wait?

"My family is excited. They are happy for me. They are rabid Wolfpack fans right now."

Lawson attended camps at Virginia, Maryland, and Wake Forest and has a trip left to Boston College. He earned his first offer after impressing the Wolfpack coaches at last week's camp.

"I worked with the offensive line coach at State's camp," said Lawson. "I wasn't sure what he thought of me, but I must have impressed them since they offered. The offensive line coach... he's a great guy... the entire coaching staff is great."

Lawson anchored a Catholic offensive line that blocked for 4,603 rushing yards in the wing-T offense, and the program is coming off back-to-back state championships. Lawson was named to both the all-conference and all-county teams, and the 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive lineman is looking to lead his team to another title.

Lawson is the seventh commitment for NC State in the 2007 class, and all seven are in-state products. He is the second offensive line prospect to commit, joining Wilson (NC) Hunt standout Justin Whaley. Garner safety Chris Culliver, Wilmington tight end George Bryan, Fuquay-Varina defensive tackle Sam Jones, Charlotte wideout Steven Howard, and Pinetops defensive end Linwan Euwell have also committed to the Wolfpack.

"[NC State] said they are trying to attack the in-state kids hard this year," Lawson previously told Pack Pride.

Pack Pride will have more on Henry Lawson's decision so stay tuned!
