Pack Pride Basketball Recruiting Board

Sidney Lowe and his staff hit the recruiting trail today, as the major shoe camps get underway, and the Wolfpack has plenty of playing time to pitch to recruits. With three scholarships available, NC State can pursue several different players in the 2007 class.

The Pack Pride Recruiting Board is in no way connected with the NC State coaching staff. This board is for our readers to remain updated with the recruitment of players who have shown an interest in NC State. Players are listed according to their interest in NC State through various media outlets. We will update this board throughout the recruiting year when new information is reported.

PG Chris Wright

Hometown: Washington, DC

Vitals: 6-1/190/26 PPG

Schools of Interest: NC State (Offer), Georgetown, Wake Forest, Depaul, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Illinois

Wright Profile: Wright has to be NC State's top priority and expect Sidney Lowe to track his every move at the NIKE All-American Camp. Currently Georgetown holds a slight advantage for Wright, but NC State has a lot of advantages that intrigues the four-star point guard. The next month will speak volumes as to where the Wolfpack really stands in his recruitment.

PG Jamelle McMillan

Hometown: Seattle, Washington

Vitals: 6-2/180

Schools of Interest: NC State (Offer), Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Virginia, Clemson

McMillan Profile: A legacy recruit for NC State, most expect the Wolfpack to ultimately land the four-star prospect. However, it won't be as easy as some believe because McMillan has emerged as a hot commodity. Teams value his size, leadership, athleticism, and the defensive intensity he brings to the table at the point guard position. Sidney Lowe and his father, Nate McMillan, are close friends and that could factor into NC State's favor, but Herb Sendek did a great job recruiting McMillan so Arizona State will be a player as well. Like Wright, McMillan is scheduled to attend the NIKE All-American Camp.

SF Johnny Thomas

Hometown: Morehead City, North Carolina

Vitals: 6-5/210/18 PPG

Schools of Interest: NC STATE VERBAL

Thomas Profile: Thomas committed to NC State in late June after emerging as the Wolfpack's top target at swingman. He burst on the scene with an all-tournament performance at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, and Sidney Lowe and company swooped in a few weeks later to secure the commitment. George Washington, Virginia Tech, and Miami had also offered Thomas, who will spend the rest of the summer playing AAU ball with the North Carolina Gaters. He may not have a high ranking because he will be attending limited events, but it's obvious that NC State landed the guy they wanted on the wing in Thomas.

PF J.J. Hickson

Hometown: Marietta, Georgia

Vitals: 6-8/220/20 PPG

Schools of Interest: NC State (Offer), Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgetown, Maryland, Wake Forest

Hickson Profile: Hickson has been a man of few words, as he has yet to release a recruiting list or top five. Because of this, a lot of schools feel like they are in good shape with him and are recruiting the talented power forward vigorously. NC State's Larry Harris and Monte Towe are recruiting Hickson, and Towe will be watching him at the ABCD Camp this week. Hickson is likely NC State's top frontcourt target entering July.

PF Julian Vaughn

Hometown: Reston, Virginia

Vitals: 6-10/240

Schools of Interest: NC State (Offer), North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, Virginia, Maryland, Georgetown

Vaughn Profile: Vaughn entered the spring with lofty expectations, but has not been on his game after battling a leg injury. Offers from North Carolina and Duke have not come his way, and the rest of the field is starting to emerge as contenders for his services. Should the two ACC powers not offer, his recruitment will likely be wide open, and NC State should be in solid shape given the amount of playing time available in the frontcourt. The Wolfpack's Larry Harris continues his pursuit of Vaughn, who is listed as headed to the NIKE All-American Camp.

C Anthony McClain

Hometown: Fort Washington, Maryland

Vitals: 7-0/220

Schools of Interest: NC State (Offer), Georgetown, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech

McClain Profile: McClain continues to improve each time out and is one of the top true centers available. With the Wolfpack's ties to the D.C. area, they could be a serious contender, but they will have to battle Georgetown who is in great shape. McClain is expected to attend the ABCD Camp.

F Jerai Grant

Hometown: Hyattsville, Maryland

Vitals: 6-8/200

Schools of Interest: NC State (Offer), Marquette, Dayton, Xavier

Grant Profile: The son of former NBA standout Harvey Grant, Jerai continues to improve and should be a key contributor for Dematha next season. A combo forward with great athleticism and a developing post game, Grant needs to get stronger. He hasn't been seen much because, like most Dematha players, he doesn't play much on the AAU circuit, but this week he is scheduled to attend the NIKE All-American Camp.

F Kenny Belton

Hometown: Greensboro, North Carolina

Vitals: 6-7/225

Schools of Interest: NC State, Wake Forest, Depaul, Clemson, Tennessee

Belton Profile: Like several other regional programs, NC State is tracking the progress Belton makes this summer. He has been on recruiting radars since his freshman season, and now is time for him to breakout and secure the high-major scholarship offers. A strong post player with solid low-post skills, Belton must improve his rebounding and defensive presence. Belton is expected to attend the Superstar Camp in Atlanta, Georgia. He was in Raleigh for NC State's Elite Skills Camp in June.

F Tracy Smith

Hometown: Durham, North Carolina

Vitals: 6-7/230

Schools of Interest: NC State, Memphis, Oklahoma State

Smith Profile: A player who has reshaped his body and turned into a legitimate high-major prospect, Smith is receiving interest from NC State, Memphis, and Oklahoma State among others. Smith plays his prep ball at Mt. Zion and is slated to attend this week's ABCD Camp.
