Virginia DL Earns Second Big Offer

NC State landed defensive tackle Alan-Michael Cash from Varina High School in Richmond, Va. a little over a year ago. Now, another star defensive tackle is catching the eye of recruiters from all over the east coast. We've got the latest on Bud Tribbey.

Defensive tackle Bud Tribbey from Varina High School in Richmond, Va. picked up his second big scholarship offer this past weekend after attending camp at Virginia Tech. He gives the latest on his performance in Blacksburg as well as the schools he's keeping a close eye on.

"I thought performed great," Tribbey said of his performance at Tech's camp. "Every time I go out there, I give 100 percent. I gave 100 percent and I though I did the best I've done. After we finished one-on-one drills, the coaches called some recruits over to tell them whether they were 1A-type players or 1-AA. Coach Cavanaugh called me over and said they were going to offer me a scholarship. I was kind of shocked by the offer. I was like, ‘are you serious?' I didn't know what to do…I was really excited."

Tribbey measured in at 6-0, 285 pounds. He posted a 5.0 flat in the 40-yard dash but has posted faster times (in the 4.8s) in previous combines. He is athletic, but that is not his primary strength right now.

"My strength is really my strength," said Tribbey, who can bench press 185 pounds 29 times. "The weight room is my sanctuary. I live in the weight room."

As a junior last season, Tribbey racked up 10 tackles-for-loss and had four sacks.

"I'm better at pass rushing right now," Tribbey said. "Trust me, I can get to the quarterback. I can stop the run too, but I can get in the backfield anytime."

Virginia Tech joins Syracuse as Tribbey's two "main, solid offers." He is being recruited by several other 1A programs as well, but those programs have not offered. N.C. State, which is a school he's visited unofficially, is a program Tribbey would like to see offer.

"It's a nice place," Tribbey said of N.C. State.

As for when he may make a decision, Tribbey says "Right now, I really don't know. I don't think I'll wait that late, but I think I do want to take some visits. I'm just not sure."

Tech is in good shape at this point with the Blue Devil standout.

"Virginia Tech really stands out," Tribbey said. "One of the reasons is location. Syracuse is a good school, but Virginia Tech is an awesome school, too, and it's only three hours away. I also have family in Roanoke."
