Pack Lands Crucial In-State Commitment

OL Desmond Roberts has been a major in-state priority for NC State all year. Given the Pack's needs along the offensive line, landing Roberts was paramount for the Wolfpack coaches. We've got the scoop on Roberts' unofficial visit to State on Tuesday and subsequent commitment.

NC State landed a crucial part of their 2007 recruiting class on Tuesday when OL Desmond Roberts from Northampton High-West in Gaston, NC pledged to the Wolfpack after an unofficial visit to Raleigh.

"Yeah, I committed today," said Roberts. "I fell in love with the coaches over the last two years. I had been feeling it for a long time and just felt like it was the place for me.

"My mom got to meet with the academic folks for the second time and she liked it. A lot of my family pulls for the Wolfpack so they all support me. I think she knew for a while that I wanted to commit but I hadn't told her. It just struck me that I had to go there."

NC State TE coach Curt Cignetti was responsible for recruiting Roberts and he, along with coach Amato were apparently thrilled with Robert's decision.

"Coach Cignetti was really happy," he said. "We were in coach Amato's office and both of them were real happy. They were just congratulating me and welcoming me to the team." Roberts boasted offers from UNC, Virginia Tech, East Carolina and South Carolina in addition to the Wolfpack.
