NC State is looking to add more speed and athleticism to the defensive end position in the Class of 2007. Jameil Farrington appears to be near the top of the Pack's recruiting board.
The 6-2, 235-pound pass rusher from Homestead, FL recorded 14 sacks last season and his personal goal is to top that number this fall. His season begins Friday and Farrington is poised to have another dominant year.
"Our first game of the year is Friday and everybody is real excited about it," he said. "There's a lot of stuff going on with recruiting, and I'm taking that seriously, but my biggest concern is to take care of business on the field this year."
Farrington holds several offers and should see them continue to pour in over the course of his senior season.
"I have offers from schools like NC State, Pitt, Memphis and Alabama," said Farrington. "I'm looking at all those schools plus a few others like Miami, Auburn and Clemson."
While the Pack appears to be in the mix, Coach Amato and staff might have their work cut out for them if a local school decides to offer.
"I would say Miami is standing out a little right now," he said. "They haven't offered, but they're at the front of my mind. I don't think I would commit right away if they offered though. I just don't know what I would do. I'm still open to other schools. They're just probably my leader right now."
For some time Farrington has talked about the possibility of going to a school as a ‘packaged deal' with a teammate.
"Me and Maurice Harris would like to play together if we could. It might not work out that way, but I hope it does. The schools that are looking at me are looking at him too. He might be hearing from a couple others, like Florida. I just want to worry about this season right now. I'll probably take some official visits and I'll probably go to some games at Miami, but anything could happen at this point."
Harris, a three-star linebacker, is also considering the Pack. NC State was the first school to offer.
