What happened that led to you leaving NC State for a while?
"Yeah, I went home and I was happy to be home because it was a little bit of a homesickness type thing. After being at home for about a month and a half, I realized, NC State, it was a good place to be and it was the best place for me to be. So I got through that little phase I was going through and decided it was best for me to come back here."
Was there anyone that played a major role in getting you back to NC
"My parents really wanted me to come back. The coaches wanted me to come back. I thought about it and after talking to my family, everyone wanted me to come back. So I felt like if everyone wanted me to come back then it was best for me to come back. I tried to look at both sides of the picture and everything was leaning to go to NC State."
How do you feel now that you're back with the Pack?
"I feel great. You know, everyone on the team, we're all good friends. I think it was more going home and being with my friends from high school and I feel fine now. I've talked to all of my friends here and I'm glad to be here."
You had a problem with your tonsils. What was the issue with that?
"I had a problem with my tonsils. They were really large and the doctors said the best thing to do was to take them out. So I took them out right before mat drills and I got down to like 225 pounds and I couldn't gain the weight back. It was tough to gain the weight back but after that, I started gaining weight."
How do you like the move to tight end?
"I love playing tight end. It's a lot of fun. I'm learning the position still. I'm trying to learn all the blocking schemes. But getting in there, running the routes and blocking people...I feel pretty good. I played offensive tackle in high school so I've got the blocking part down. The passing's new to me but other than that, the blocking's pretty good."
You played a lot of basketball in high school. Does that help any at tight
"Oh yeah, that definitely helped out. You have to concentrate on the ball. You have to go up and get a rebound. Just moving your hips. It's all about movement."
How do you like playing for your new position coach (Curt Cignetti)?
"He's being very patient with me. He's helping me. He's giving me pointers. He's being very patient right now and I appreciate it."
How is the offense coming along so far?
"I think the offense is coming along great. We're a close group. We knit well and we're a smart group. They're doing a great job preparing for everything and I think the offense is doing an incredible job."
