Pigskin Kick Off Highlights: Dominique Ellis

Wendell (NC) East Wake defensive back Dominique Ellis took the field for the first time in the Pigskin Kick Off and here is your chance to catch the Wolfpack commitment in action.

Name: Dominique Ellis
Hometown: Wendell, North Carolina
High School: East Wake High School
Position: Defensive Back
Vitals: 5'11/185/4.6

NOTES: Ellis burst on the scene this spring at the Durham Scout.com combine, where he routinely locked up wide receivers and impressed onlookers with his aggressive style. Scout.com's Doug Cox stated Ellis was the top defensive back in attendance after working with him that day, and Ellis followed up that performance by being named to the first-team All-Combine team at Scout.com's Atlanta combine.

Because he didn't have much game film to go on due to his transfer, Ellis had to prove himself at various combines and camps and he did just that as he earned scholarship offers from NC State, South Carolina, North Carolina, and East Carolina based on his work in drills and head-to-head battles.

Ellis committed to NC State in July.

ELLIS QUOTE: "I liked all of them, but none of them fit me as a player like State," he said. "State just had everything I wanted, and I play with a little swagger... I see that when I watch State.

"It was actually an easy decision. Out of everything I could gain from it, I could't figure out one bad thing about State that could keep me from coming there.

Dominique Ellis
"I just fit great in State's system and they fit me great. It was that simple."

PLAYER QUOTE: "Dominique, who has committed to State, he stood out to me this summer. He's real impressive. He's a shutdown corner, real physical… I didn't really know who he was, but at the Nike Camp he was locking everybody up. I'm glad we got him committed, we're getting a nice squad together." -- Charlotte (NC) Olympic Wide Receiver Steven Howard

SCOUTING REPORT: "Dominique Ellis is a player that has been somewhat overlooked, perhaps partly due to the fact he transferred to East Wake High School from Georgia this year. Ellis has a perfect frame for cornerback and a tremendous attitude. His straight-line speed may be a concern but his lateral movement, quickness and change of direction are superb. He showed solid cover skills during the combine circuit this spring and more than held his own against some of the nation's best." -- Pack Pride Recruiting Analyst Steve Williams
