NC State got in on WR Darian Williams a little later than several schools but that didn't prevent the Pack from hosting the senior wideout on his first official visit. The 6-1, 185 pounder with 4.5-second speed in the 40 from Northeast High School in Oakland Park, Fla had 29 catches for 303 yards and two scores as a junior.
Although his numbers weren't eye-popping, Williams has already accrued scholarship offers from NC State, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Central Florida, Arizona State, Auburn, Minnesota and Rutgers. Pack Pride caught up with Williams after his official visit to NC State this past weekend.
"The visit went really well," said Williams. "They've got really nice facilities. We got a chance to go to practice and meet with the individual coaches. I spent some time watching the wide receivers and I met coach Dixon. I really liked him and the way he coached. He left a strong impression on me. You could tell all the wide receivers respected him."
Although the Pack ultimately lost to Akron during Williams' visit, the south Florida standout came away impressed by the Wolfpack faithful.
"The fans there were great," he said. "Some of them were calling out to me and I was surprised they knew who I was. I just loved the atmosphere there."
With a trip to State behind him, Williams has formulated a top five and he has at least three more schools he hopes to visit before settling on a future college.
"I don't have anything set up officially," said Williams. "But it looks like me, Josh (Hartigan) and Bo (Williams) will be visiting Pittsburgh together. I'm also looking at visiting Arizona State and Central Florida. My top schools right now are Pittsburgh, NC State, Central Florida, Arizona State and Auburn. I'd say everyone is equal."
