Grant Has Options

Lauderdale Lakes (FL) Boyd Anderson standout Patrick Grant is considering a host of schools and although his recruitment is picking up he remains focused on his senior season.

"It's been going good," Grant said of his senior season. "Right now I have five sacks, and we're 2-2. We lost both of those games by two points, and I think we really beat ourselves. We bounced back and beat the No. 2 team in the state, Deerfield Beach. We beat them 28-8. That showed everybody that we're still a good team."

Checking in at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Grant uses his outstanding speed and quickness to bring pressure off the edge from his defensive end position.

He has offers from NC State, Colorado, Indiana, Minnesota, Auburn, Akron, Wake Forest, and East Carolina among others, and this past weekend he hit the road for his first official visit.

"I just came back from Colorado Sunday night," Grant stated. "It was a good experience. I met the coaches, and I met a lot of people. I got to meet the other players. It was a good visit.

"They are a young team. They are 0-3 now, but I think they've been beating themselves. They played Arizona State and held them to just 14 points. It's a good school, and that's a team I think that in two years will be good."

Grant has already scheduled three other visits and is leaving one spot open for later in December.

"I have NC State coming up next," he said. "I'm going up there October 20th. Minnesota is the 1st of December, and the 8th of December is Indiana. I'm not sure about the other one. I'm going to leave that one open because I'm just not sure right now."

While he didn't want to name a leader, Grant did list three programs as those he currently has the most interest in.

"Right now my top three is probably Colorado, NC State and Minnesota. Basically I just like the schemes and how those teams play. There's a lot of stuff I like about them.

"I'm probably the fastest defensive end down here in Florida so I love teams that use speed-rushing defensive ends. That's my game, and that's what I'm looking for, a place I can use my speed and quickness. Indiana and Minnesota both like me as a weakside linebacker."

Could Grant reach a decision prior to taking all of his official visits?

"Basically, my mom won't let me commit to any school until I take all of my visits," he said. "So I don't have any choice on that, but I do think I should see all the schools before I make a decision."

What does he like about NC State?

"I love how they play and everything," said Grant. "I talk to coach [Stroud] a lot, and we have a good bond. He tells me all about the schemes they are using.

"To me, especially with that Akron game, they are just starting off slow. I think they are going to pick it up when they get in sync."

Grant said he's been enjoying watching the college football season and plans to use his visits to evaluate each program.

"I'm going to see what it's like at these places," he said. "The main thing for me is I wanna play right away so I'll be looking closely at the depth charts."
