Pack Pride Basketball Recruiting Board

The fall signing period is right around the corner, and the Wolfpack has plenty of playing time to pitch to recruits. With three scholarships available, NC State can pursue several different players in the 2007 class.

The Pack Pride Recruiting Board is in no way connected with the NC State coaching staff. This board is for our readers to remain updated with the recruitment of players who have shown an interest in NC State. Players are listed according to their interest in NC State through various media outlets. We will update this board throughout the recruiting year when new information is reported.

GUARD

PG Chris Wright

Hometown: Washington, DC

Vitals: 6-1/190/26 PPG

Schools of Interest: NC State (Offer), Georgetown, Pittsburgh

Wright Profile: Wright has to be NC State's top priority, and he had a great visit to NC State earlier this month. With a trip remaining to Georgetown, a decision could come following the visit and the Wolfpack and Hoyas appear to be out front.

G Rashad Green

Hometown: Manhasset, New York

Vitals: 6-4/185

Schools of Interest: NC State

Green Profile: Green will prep this season at Bridgton Academy, the same school that produced Wolfpack freshman Bartosz Lewandowski. Green is in talks with the Wolfpack regarding a scholarship and should a firm offer be put on the table he will accept as he wants to attend NC State. A decision could come in the near future.

SWINGMAN

SF Johnny Thomas

Hometown: Morehead City, North Carolina

Vitals: 6-5/210/18 PPG

Schools of Interest: NC STATE VERBAL

Thomas Profile: Thomas committed to NC State in late June after emerging as the Wolfpack's top target at swingman. He burst on the scene with an all-tournament performance at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, and Sidney Lowe and company swooped in a few weeks later to secure the commitment. George Washington, Virginia Tech, and Miami had also offered Thomas, who spent the rest of the summer working on his game instead of the AAU circuit. He may not be highly ranked because he didn't attend many events, but it's obvious that NC State landed the guy they wanted on the wing in Thomas.

POST

PF J.J. Hickson

Hometown: Marietta, Georgia

Vitals: 6-8/220/20 PPG

Schools of Interest: NC State (Offer), Kentucky, Florida, Georgetown, Tennessee

Hickson Profile: Hickson is NC State's top frontcourt target, but he is a focal point for several high-major programs. The Wolfpack hosted him this past weekend, and he had a great visit. Trips to Georgetown, Florida, and possibly Kentucky remain on the schedule, and it looks like this one will end in mid-October.

F Jeff Brooks

Hometown: Louisville, Kentucky

Vitals: 6-8/205

Schools of Interest: NC State (Offer), New Mexico State, Louisville, Kentucky, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Clemson

Brooks Profile: A late bloomer, Brooks emerged this summer after starring for the Derek Smith All-Stars on the AAU circuit. NC State assistant Larry Harris is recruiting Brooks, and the Wolfpack currently co-leads with New Mexico State, who is coached by former NBA star Reggie Theus. Brooks has indicated that he will not commit to a school until the spring period.

C Joseph Katuka

Hometown: Montverde, Florida

Vitals: 6-10/215

Schools of Interest: NC State, St. Joe's, SMU, Virginia, Florida State

Katuka Profile: Katuka is a top player at a high school known for developing prospects. He missed some time this spring with an injury but has high expectations entering his senior season. He can really run the floor and is a very good athlete with a big time wingspan. Katuka is still working on his feel but offense/defense coming around. NC State's evaluation is in the early stages according to his head coach.

F Mike Scott

Hometown: Deep Creek, Virginia

Vitals: 6-8/200

Schools of Interest: NC State (Offer), Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, St. John's

Scott Profile: Scott originally signed with Temple but is prepping this season at Hargave and has reopened his recruitment. A host of high-major programs are involved, and NC State recently offered after evaluating him at a workout. Scott is expected to visit the Wolfpack in the near future.

C Chris Barnes

Hometown: Sylvania, Georgia

Vitals: 6-7/245

Schools of Interest: NC State, Kentucky, Florida, Memphis, LSU

Barnes Profile: NC State has just now started to recruit Barnes, and programs such as Florida, Kentucky, and Memphis have been on him for a while now. A wide-body in the paint, Barnes takes up space and is athletic and strong enough to play center on the college level. Barnes is visiting Kentucky this weekend.

F Tracy Smith

Hometown: Durham, North Carolina

Vitals: 6-7/230

Schools of Interest: NC State, Memphis, Oklahoma State

Smith Profile: A player who has reshaped his body and turned into a legitimate high-major prospect, Smith is receiving interest from NC State, Memphis, and Oklahoma State among others. Smith plays his prep ball at Mt. Zion, but can't take official visits until he takes an ACT or SAT. Academics could be a concern with Smith.
