"We're having a pretty good year so far," Grimes said. "We're 3-2 and you might say that's not real impressive for a small school but we've played Avon Park, Hardee, and we have a big game against Bartow this weekend. We've had a tough schedule so far, playing bigger schools." Grimes, 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds, took his first recruiting visit of the year this past weekend.
"I went up to N.C. State," he said. "I flew up Saturday morning and I'd say it was a nine. The game was awesome. You couldn't have asked for a better ending. I liked the facilities and the coaches. Their offense is very similar to ours and the way they block. When I sat down with the coaches, I was able to tell what they were gonna do because our offenses are so much alike. I also sat down with Coach Amato for about 20 minutes. It was great. They're definitely my number one right now."
Grimes isn't ready to make a commitment right now but that might not be too far away.
"I don't know exactly when but a decision is coming soon," he said. "My top five is N.C. State, South Florida, Colorado State, UCF, and probably Florida. I'm also looking at Iowa State and Middle Tennessee State."
Grimes has not yet scheduled any other visits and he may not end up taking any more, as it looks real promising for the Wolfpack right now.
The talented lineman racked up 80 pancake blocks and 179 knockdowns as a junior en route to all-state first team and all-county honors. Grimes has been Mr. Consistency as well as he's started 34 consecutive games and played in two state championships.
Grimes is currently rated the No. 94 in Scout.com's Preseason Top 100 Prospects in state of Florida.
