Defensive tackle Tydreke Powell plans on waiting until Signing Day to announce his decision but if he had to decide today he would be staying in-state.

"I'm looking hard at NC State, UNC, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, Penn State and a couple of others," said Powell. "I put out a top five last week, but I think I probably rushed that a little bit. I'm kind of jumping around from day to day when it comes to who I'm looking at.

"The one thing I do know is that if I had to make my decision today it would come down to State and Carolina."

"I was blown away by the fans."

What does the 6-3, 283-pound tackle from Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford County like about the rivals on Tobacco Road?

"I went to the NC State-Boston College game last week and I was blown away by the fans," he said. "I got to the game like three hours early and we had trouble finding a place to park. Their fans are just crazy. They really caught my attention. That helped them out a lot.

"I've been to see Carolina play Rutgers and Virginia Tech. They lost both games, but it's a good school, and I think it would be a real nice place to be. Both schools are good. Right now they're pretty much even and at the top of my list."

Powell has already scheduled three official visits. He will visit Florida on Oct. 7 for the game against LSU, Penn State on Oct. 14 and Auburn on Nov. 10.

On the season Hertford County is 5-1 and Powell has recorded 55 tackles with seven sacks. While it looks like it may come down to the two in-state schools, plenty can happen between now and decision day.

"I definitely plan on waiting until Signing Day. Right now State and Carolina look good, but there are a lot of other good schools I'm still hearing from. Anything could happen."
