Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio finished off their regular season at 8-2 this past Friday night with a 12-0 win to advance to the first round of the state playoffs next weekend. One of the defensive standouts all year for the Firebirds has been LB Alex Kaufman. Pack Pride caught up with Kaufman recently to get an update on which schools he's continuing to keep a close eye on.
At 6-2, 215 pounds with 4.78-second speed in the 40-yard dash, Kaufman projects as a middle linebacker on the next level and is very comparable to current NC State MLB Pat Lowery exiting high school.
Through the first nine games of the year, Kaufman had tallied 31.5 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks and two pass breakups. The senior ‘backer has been a target on the Wolfpack recruiting radar for months and he says he has a Thanksgiving weekend official visit planned for the Pack.
"I'm planning to be there on the weekend of Nov 24th," said Kaufman. "Actually we're going to spend Thanksgiving at home and then get up early and go to Raleigh on Friday.
"NC State is still number one with me. Right now, I really just want to get down there and see what State is all about. Academics are going to be a big thing to me so I want to see that side of it."
In addition to the Pack, Kaufman has a few other programs he may take an official visit with before reaching a decision.
"I'm hearing a lot from Ohio University and Miami of Ohio and I'm looking at making visits with them. Minnesota offered me a while back and I may visit them after my season."
Editor's Note- Pack Pride learned that Marshall also offered Kaufman this past week.
