Coach Chuck Amato can't explain why N.C. State is doing everything but scoring in the first quarter. Amato thought sophomore quarterback Daniel Evans improved N.C. State's passing game enough to give the Wolfpack a balanced attack with former Parade All-Americans Andre Brown and Toney Baker in the backfield. But N.C. State is one of just two ACC teams (along with Duke) that hasn't scored on an opening drive this season. Six times in eight games, N.C. State has failed to score in the first quarter. The lack of early production is one reason the Wolfpack (3-5, 2-3 ACC) needs to win three of its final four games to become bowl eligible. Read More

Only one turnover, but nine penalties. It was State's third consecutive defeat, leaving many Wolfpack fans wondering if this season suddenly gone awry somehow can be salvaged. Read More
