RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head coach Sidney Lowe met the media following the win over Northern State.

"I was actually pleased with the way we played for the first night out and really playing against a very good opponent."

"We were able to tighten up the defense a little and get some stops."

"I was very proud of those guys."

"I thought Courtney Fells played very well. He didn't shoot the ball well, but he defended, he got big steals, big rebounds... made some passes."

"Brian Neiman was huge for us, not just from an offensive standpoint where he made some stops, but also defensively."

"Our guys, they know me. I don't worry about the offensive end as long as we're not turning the ball over. I feel as if we get good shots, hopefully we're going to knock those down."

"The defensive end is something that you can do every night. It's not a hot and cold thing... you can play defense every night and that's what we're preaching to our guys. That's where you win the ballgame."

"It felt good today, but we wanted to keep the boot on it to protect it some more... this was good for us. The fact that Gavin got that opportunity to play, Brian Neiman got the opportunity to play, Braxton got the opportunity to play."

"It was our first opportunity to play against someone else."

"We had a tryout and these young men just came in and they worked extremely hard. They did everything we asked them to do... they are good young men, they are good students, and I think they are going to represent us well."

"You want to make sure you take good shots."
