Dave Telep is reporting that NC State has not offered Gary Forbes. This could be a sign that NC State wants to see what happens with Shakur's decision before they extend the second scholarship to a member of the 2003 class.

Gary Forbes made huge progress in catching the eyes of recruiters this summer. He had two schools recruiting him early in the spring, Georgia Tech and Virginia. Then came Nike and more majors began to take notice. Dave Telep from TheInsidersHoops.com explained Gary's ascent this way. "Gary Forbes' rise up the recruiting lists began in early July when he announced his presence at Nike Camp. Forbes basically shot and scored his way into minds of college recruiters. By the time he arrived at the Peach Jam, he was one of the hottest rising commodities in the country."

Now the suitors include NC State, UConn, UMass, Providence, St Johns and most recently Cincinnati. We caught up with Gary Forbes Sunday night to get the latest on his favorites. Forbes said "NC State, Virginia, Georgia Tech and UConn are my favorites right now with NC State and Virginia being my co-favorites. Cincinnati has come on recently and I am interested in them as well."

He does not intend to take all five official visits however. "I probably will only take four visits. I am scheduled to visit Virginia on September 13. I will visit Georgia Tech the next week on the 21st. Connecticut and NC State want me to visit in late October. Right now I intend to take only those four."

We also asked Gary about offers and how they were extended. "Those top four have all offered me over the phone."

Even with the progress he made in the eyes of recruiters, he was not satisfied with his play this summer. "I could of played better. My goal this year is to make the McDonald's All-American game." Gary will continue to work toward that goal for the remainder of the summer. He is scheduled to be at the Five Star Basketball Camp II in Honesdale, PA August 23-28.

Forbes considers himself a two guard but has the abilty to play some three. According to the Scout Database, he has the ability score at a pretty good pace and is a nice prospect who is on his way up. Telep also told TSW that "Gary has a fine stroke to deep range but also will get himself to the rim."

Do not look for a commitment from Forbes before the first of November. He has those four visits to make and will decide before the early signing date of November 13, 2002.
