"Whether the following is true remains to be seen. But, I've been told that the flirtation with Pittsburgh Steelers head coach — and former NC Stater — Bill Cowher will come to an official end tomorrow in Pittsburgh when Cowher addresses the rumors of his return to Raleigh. Cowher is interested in a future that includes being involved in NC State. But, the future doesn't appear to be now." - 850 The Buzz's Adam Gold

N.C. State's search to replace Chuck Amato as its head football coach should start with a telephone call to Bill Cowher of the Pittsburgh Steelers, says one of the university's most influential boosters. The Wolfpack's football operations center at Carter-Finley Stadium is named for Rose Hill businessman Wendell Murphy. Murphy also currently serves as chairman of the school's Board of Trustees. Cowher is a former N.C. State linebacker and in February a trust managed by his sports agency purchased a $2.5 million home in Raleigh. Read More

NCSU's athletics director announced Sunday that Amato wouldn't be brought back as football coach after the Wolfpack lost seven straight games to close the season with a 3-9 record. It was N.C. State's first nine-loss season since 1959. Read More
