Mays Scores 36 in Marion Win

NC State commitment Julius Mays scores 36 as Marion (IN) defeats Warren Central 60-56.

NC State commitment Julius Mays was dominant as Marion (IN) improved to 2-0 on the season by defeating Warren Central 60-56.

Mays tallied 36 points and scored 24 points in the first half. He drilled 9-of-12 shots from the field in the first half and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc for the game.

The 6-foot-2 point guard was eager to face Warren Central junior guard Walter Offutt, an Ohio State commitment. Mays, who committed to NC State earlier this fall, stated following the game that he wanted to outplay his junior counterpart.

"Offutt, he's my rival," Mays told the Marion Chronicle Tribune. "Anytime I step on the court with him, it's do-or-die and I try to play my best. I was just pumped. I just wanted to come out and get it started and get us on a good run."

Offutt, a four-star prospect according to, scored 18 points for Warren Central.

Mays, a three-star prospect according to, verbaled to NC State over offers from Indiana and Xavier. Cincinnati, Purdue, Notre Dame, and Penn State were expressing heavy interest.

Mays and Marion have another big test tonight as the Giants face Lawrence North. LN enters the contest on a 48-game winning streak, and is the program that produce Ohio State freshman Mike Conley and Greg Oden.
