Hickson's totals led the way for Wheeler, as Columbia was paced by Georgia Tech signee Lance Storrs. Storrs drilled four 3-pointers to total a game-high 20 points, and 6'8 forward Jeremy Price, a Georgia signee, added 17 points and 12 rebounds for Columbia.
Hickson, a top 25 player in the 2007 class, connected on 6-of-14 from the field. Joining Hickson in double figures for Wheeler was junior wing Dequan Jones. Jones added 11 points. The Wheeler guards had trouble with Columbia's pressure and struggled getting Hickson, Jones, and Trey Lang the ball in the paint.
Columbia entered the contest 3-0 on the season, as this was Wheeler's first game of the year.
The game was a part of an ESPN doubleheader, as the nightcap featured AAAAA champion Norcross against legendary Oak Hill Academy. Oak Hill, rated No. 1 in the country, defeated Norcross 65-57. Duke signee Nolan Smith scored 25 points to lead Oak Hill.
Hickson and Wheeler (0-1) hit the hardwood again tonight, as they face Centennial High School at 7:30.
