Name: Kyle Linney
Hometown: Taylorsville, North Carolina
High School: Alexander Central High School
Position: Defensive Lineman
Notes: One of the surprise stars for the North Carolina squad during last weekend's Shrine Bowl game was defensive tackle Kyle Linney from Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville, NC. Linney was explosive from his nose guard spot, recording a tackle for loss and several quarterback hurries. He was routinely in the South Carolina backfield and did a good job of helping disrupt the Sandlapper offense. Linney talked about his effort and his thoughts on all-everything QB Willy Korn.
"I felt like I did good at the line of scrimmage, but I missed a couple of key sacks," said Linney. "On the long drive they had I missed a sack so I felt kind of bad about that but basically, I felt like I played pretty good up front.
"(Korn) he's a great quarterback. He got away from me one of those times so I give him some respect."
Linney remains a soft commitment to NC State, but he is hearing from Clemson, a program that he favored early in the recruiting process.
Scouting Report: "Kyle Linney surprised me with his size, and is certainly 6-3/285 and will be a solid contributor as a nose tackle in college. He has some skinny legs that will need to add some muscle to before getting pushed back in the middle of he line. Plays very low off the ball and active in the middle with his hands and footwork moving laterally. A bit inconsistent, shows flashes of his potential against the run. Plays hard." -- Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Miller Safrit
