Name: Dominique Ellis
Hometown: Wendell, North Carolina
High School: East Wake High School
Notes: Dominique Ellis from East Wake High School in Wendell, NC came up big for the North Carolina squad this past weekend at the Shrine Bowl. The three-star prospect led his team with five tackles including four solo hits and came away with defensive MVP honors. Ellis spoke with Pack Pride about his performance and the week leading up to the game.
"I thought I did great because they had some deep threats and I'm not sure, but I think I led the team in tackles but it was a team effort," he said. "Everybody worked hard and it was great.
"Actually, the whole week was great, not just the game. Going to the children's hospital was awesome."
With the removal of Chuck Amato as the head coach at NC State, Ellis has seen interest in his services intensify from several schools. He will make official visits to Virginia Tech and UNC but says he's staying loyal to the Pack for now.
"Trust me, I'm still committed to NC State," said Ellis. "It's other teams that are coming after me hard. But until I meet coach O'Brien, I have to weigh my options."
The Pack boasted six current commitments at Saturday's game and Ellis said everyone still seems solid to end up at NC State.
"Everybody is still there," he said. "Everybody is still committed. Everybody wants to get in (on an official visit) on the 19th or 26th and meet coach O'Brien."
Scouting Report: "Dominique Ellis is an undersized but active strong safety who is excellent in press coverage and makes up ground well against the number two receiver on his side. Will require help against a bigger tight end, but plays well in the air to overcome a few inches in height. Able to play in the box and has a cornerback attitude that just keeps coming back after any bad plays." -- Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Miller Safrit
